I always figured there was no chance any of you fashion bloggers would rub off on me. I was pretty sure I didn’t have the creativity required to put together your unusual color combinations, create your amazing layered outfits or turn a skirt into a stole a la Little Edie Beale. And I was right! I haven’t acquired any of your style genius by osmosis. I’m still all about a dress, or a simple top and bottom, usually with black involved. But, thanks to y’all being so inspiring, I have been making more of an effort to dig my interesting clothes out of the closet and wear them on a regular basis.
I wore this rather peculiar Ossie Clark maxi dress out to dinner at Maremma tonight. It’s like an overgrown polo shirt in a heavy knit. Very warm! I’ve always been a little dubious about it, but I enjoyed wearing it tonight.
I tried to get a decent shot of the belt in the back but this was the best I could do.
I got this dress a few years ago on eBay for a good price. When I opened the box I nearly passed out because the smell of mothballs was so strong. Dang! Moths have stank balls. Who would have guessed? It aired out after a few months.
Oops. Almost forgot the jewelry! I’m wearing Isabella Earrings, the beatdown ring, my wedding band, the Queen Min Ring and a new Livia Ring in aquamarine. I got the aquamarine at the Tucson Gem Show.
Thank you to Joanne and Tom for picking the lovely restaurant!
UPDATED TO ADD: I wore black knee-high boots with the dress. They are so old it looks like the brand name has rubbed off, so I can’t identify them for you.

You had me in stitches harr harr harrrr!!! But I’m always known to have layers of interpretation ability!
Btw, did you wear the dress with boots?

This is beautiful! It’s nice to branch out, isn’t it? I’m wondering what footwear you had on . . . I can’t see it.
I love your engagement ring, I forgot to say when you posted it before! Oh, and your hair is still gorgeous.

I updated the post to include shoe info 🙂

great dress! you look great!
Step Right Up says
Is it as comfortable as it looks? Bonus points for the warmth factor. Will you look at my comments? Can you tell I’m practical? Does practical mean I have no fashion sense? Probably.
Miss Janey says
Dubious, why? It, and you in it, are fabulous. Aren’t they resurrecting the Ossie Clark line of clothing?
pistols at dawn says
Ossie is like “Aussie,” and since those people are all prisoners, I don’t approve of their clothing.

love it!

Great look! And that beatdown ring is gorgeous.

Is that wallpaper in the background or sponge-painting?
Or rag-rolling?
It always looks like you are in a hotel hallway or something.
WendyB says
^^It’s the ugly wallpaper in the ugly hallway outside our apartment. I’ve never found a good background in the apartment. There are NO plain walls.

First, the dress is great and I’m sure it rocks with knee-highs. Second, have you read this new article by Linda Grant on Ossie Clark: http://lifeandhealth.guardian.co.uk/fashion/story/0,,2263432,00.html. You, with your encyclopedic interrest in things, will like it I think. K
WendyB says
Thank you SO much for that link, K.Line. I read the article with trepidation because I’m (a) friends with Al Radley and (b) a fan of reviving the line, both of which are not PC among the cool kids in the fashion world. But I thought it was a very well-balanced article, very fair.

I knew it! It had to be boots. Thanks for updating that for me.

Excellent outfit!

WendyB, thanks for your good wishes for Mama.
I thoroughly enjoyed catching up with your Thursday, Friday and Saturday posts. By the way, you do the OC dress justice, for sure. As for your discussion of your not doing/knowing this or that a la fashion bloggers, could it be that your bent in life is to maintain/to explain/to entertain with your classic vintage finds? I’m no fashion blogger, so I am just speaking from my heart, after having witnessed photo after photo of your and your splendid collection, through the years even. Not only photos, but also all of the text to go along with them that enlightens me on the designer, etc. More power to you, I say. I’m learning by enjoyable osmosis–hooray.
WendyB says
Miss Janey, hmmm. Why dubious? I suppose it’s because the dress is a casual style in strangely formal length (it was actually right down to the floor but I hemmed it a bit). I don’t even like polo shirts on me, and now I have a polo shirt dress. Also the color is quite grim. It’s not a dress that I’d call sex-ay. Plus it tried to asphyxiate me when I first got it. On the other hand, when you look closely (you can BARELY see it in one photo) there’s some incredible tailoring, which I do love.
Lynette, you always leave such sweet comments. It’s true that I do love to promote other people’s work, whether they are designers/singers/etc., so I guess that is my purpose! Still, I am awestruck by all these creative ladies, one of whom can literally make beautiful dresses out of garbage bags (that’s Diana at So’Fashion).

Great dress Wendy! You have such amazing taste! Btw- I thought about your Anne B necklace throughout (after Anne returns from France) “The Other Boleyn Girl”.
Shrimpton Couture says
Hi Wendy – You look so fab in the Ossie. Can I post your pics as a real life vintage spot on my blog? Sorry for the public query but I cannot find your email address! Just say yes! LOL

The food at that restaurant looks delicious and the prices appear to be quite reasonable. As an avid foodie, I wonder why I’ve yet to visit it? Thanks for the tip.
