I sneaked off to Arizona this weekend to check out the Tucson Gem Show. Afterwards, I stopped in Phoenix to visit gorgeous sister bloggers Jennifer and Megan. We had dinner (I had “Voodoo Tuna”) during which I attempted to drink for four: myself, Megan, Jennifer and Jennifer’s bun in the oven. Considering the baby was extremely underage, I probably could’ve have gotten away with drinking for three.
After dinner, I dragged them back to my insanely decorated, cruise-ship-like hotel, where I made them pose with a statue of a Native American woman. When I first saw that statue, I thought it was a nun, which seemed like a mighty peculiar thing to have at a hotel.
If you click to enlarge the photo of these three cuties (that’s the nun/Indian on the left, Megan in the middle and Jennifer on the right), you can see that Megan is wearing my Queen of Scots necklace and Jennifer is wearing my Isabella necklace. The Indian nun didn’t get to wear anything.
I interrogated the ladies about their families and discovered Jennifer got engaged to her husband two weeks after they met. Two weeks! It takes me longer than that to do…well…nearly anything. And Megan got married at 19. These women know what they want and get right to it. No dithering for them!
After I finished drinking for five (I added Jennifer’s husband Dave to my list of people I was drinking for), we went out front to take photos in front of the hotel’s over-the-top fountain. As I tried to position my camera for a self-portrait of the three of us, Jennifer said, “What are you doing? It’s not even facing us! It’s pointed over that way!”
Tomorrow, I’ll post some photos from Tucson.
Thanks again for the great time, ladies!
UPDATED TO ADD: Okay, okay. Here’s a photo of the three of us together.
You’re always on an adventure! Poor Indian lady, got wedged in a pic with lovely bejeweled ladies but all bare herself…
With all the drinking it’s no wonder the camera’s pointing a different direction LOL! And where’s yourself?
This is totally unrelated, but how do you post a pic with enlarging ability?
Looks like fun!!
Happy to know that you are willing to travel west. Hope you visit soon!! WendyW and I are looking forward to hosting you.:-)
Hey, I want to be regaled with the story of your courtship with your husband, too.
You can regale me in a blog post, unless you are planning on visiting the redneck Riviera sometime soon and want to do it over a liquor-sodden drunkfest dinner table ’till the wee hours on a worknight. I’m up for that, too.
The caption to that last picture is brilliant.
Also, drinking for five is very attractive to me, which tells you a lot about what I look for in someone: a liver.
My parents got engaged after two weeks too…
Wonder if they are related…?
Genetics etc.
Oooooooooo!
LOOK WHO GOT “POP UP” comments?
YAY
I used to live in Arizona. Can you swing by Scottsdale and see if you can see my bike anywhere? I left it there accidently when I moved. Thanks!
Suze, I have a photo of your bike in an early post. It moved to NYC and got painted green.
Sounds like you all had a really great time! And you should have added the nun to your list, she looks like she could stand to loosen up a bit!
That’s a fun post. I love the Tucson Gem show, so much fun!
Wow, that Queen of Scots necklace is delectable. The perfect accessory to wear out for a night of drinking with new friends and jumping naked into a fountain. Are you going to post those pics, Wendy? Aw go on, they will be splashed across the internet soon enough.
“Nunindian” is my new favorite word.
And, I swear I commented on the last two posts but couldn’t remember and I checked and they weren’t there…..
am I crazy?
Ohhhhh it looks like you had such a great time, I’ve always wanted to visit arizona, it’s definitely on my list to go sometime soon!
Sounds like you had a blast! The statue is really cool, does look alot like a nun though.
I like that you are encouraging people to blow up the picture of us. no no, no no, that normal size picture is just fine!
It was a great time!
i thought it was a nun too…
my friend gia was in that gem show too! probably you run into each other withou even know it … ^_+
That’s a great story Wendy! Interestingly told. I haven’t seen the British WB yet, but I’ll keep my Sherlock Holmes hat on to sniff out any funny stuff for ya!
I JEALOUS WENDY B!
I want to go to nice, warm Tucson and have munchies with lovely friends. 🙁 POUT.

i think the drinking may have had some part to play in the wrong camera angle positioning. Megan and Jennifer look so shy in the photo with nun/indian…haha
Looks like you had a great time!
Thanks for your fun take on the gem show.
