I can’t get over the cobwebby Zac Posen gown that actress Christina Ricci wore at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute gala on Monday. This dress brings the drama!
The gala marked the opening of the Costume Institute’s Alexander McQueen exhibit. I was surprised by how few attendees wore McQueen dresses. Maybe all the good ones are being exhibited in the museum! Anyway, I think Ricci’s choice had more of a McQueen vibe than any of the other non-McQueen designs there. It’s also the one dress I saw that made me think, “I WANT IT!” Alas! It will have to go on my list of fantasy dresses. The other two are this anatomically correct artwork/dress by Laura Munday …
… and the two-tone Dolce & Gabbana leopard dress that Rihanna shamelessly flaunted in front of me.
I still have hope that I’ll find the D&G dress on eBay or in a consignment store. As for the other two, I expect my love will remain forever unrequited.

I didnt think that few of the attendees would not wear Alexander Mcqueen to the event…is it that difficult to not wear or was this planned and okayed by Anna wintour?
also, I think I may just need that heart dress in my life too! It’s amazing!!

I loved CR’s dress too and was similarly perplexed by the lack of McQueen. I have been looking at pics online all morning instead of working. So naughty. If you find that D&G dress in a size 6 (too huge for you!) let me know asap. Thanks in advance xoxo

Wow. What a dress–you’re so right about the drama of it all. And you’re way, way right about the D&G dress. It is your destiny.

That dress is perfect on Xtina. Such a great actress — have you seen Black Snake Moan?

No, I haven’t, but I’d like to!

Christina Ricci looks amazing, I also thought Madonna, Anna Wintour and SJP looked fabulous. Ah I remember the D&G dress, not so sure about the anatomy dress – it’s a bit too Body Worlds for me!
PS I’m no longer getting your RSS feed?!

That anatomically correct dress is insane, I need it! xxx
Penny Dreadful Vintage says
WOW. That is one helluva dress.
Sonia says
Yeah, her waist looks amazing in it! Like a real spider-woman!

I’ve been looking over the pics from the gala and couldn’t agree more – Christina Ricci’s dress was my absolute favorite. I love the illusion lace and extravagant train. She looked like a true movie star. If I was ever to be invited to a ball, that’s exactly what I would wear!

You know, I’m still on the lookout for that D&G dress (or anything similar) for you. Can’t believe how hard it was to even hunt it down.
That Zac Posen dress was one of my faves. Iman in the sequin gold jumpsuit was pretty badass as well!
GRIT & GLAMOUR says
Christina’s dress was totally my fave too, somuch so that I added it to my Tumblr. She looked incredible!
PS: Been wearing red lippie the last two days(since my nails are red). Honest to God, every time I do, I always think of you. Doin’ a What Wendy Wore with my lipstick, since I can’t possibly emulate your fantastic vintage frocks.

Love it!
Susan Tiner says
Christina’s dress reminds me of Morticia Addams.
You would look fantastic in the D&G dress!

I’m not a big fan of Posen but he does have a few dresses that make me swoon like this one!
Fairytale quality love it 🙂

Let’s see if three is a charm — somehow I keep getting booted off when trying to comment! Sniff sniff, you don’t love me anymore? Haha!
I’m not usually a ZP fan, but that dress was my fav of the night — I want! Count me in as another who’s love for it will remain unrequited. I think it not only looked fantastic on Christina, agree that it also was one of the best that caught the spirit of McQueen so well. A lovely homage. Plus don’t you love the Addam’s Family feel to this? I’m such a sucker for things like that!
I was surprised to see such a lack of McQueen in attendance as well. I honestly thought it would be one big parade of everyone’s fav McQueen looks again in homage to the man. There were some fantastic dresses (Iman being the gorgeous exception in pants, hoot mon that woman is hot!) just a bit disappointed at the lack of actual McQueen. I was looking forward to a McQueen feast!
That D&G dress deserves to be yours after all your patience! I’ll have to have another look by me at the consignment shops and see if I can find it. Tried Woodbury Common? Oo let’s plan a summer blogger day there — what fun that would be!

Rhianna needs to give you that dress, it must be yours.

I’m glad that anatomy dress is embroidered and not printed! Something whimsical and fun about it this way… printing in a realistic manner would just be gross!
Elizabeth says
I love that cobweb confection!
The lung one I can do without.
Finally, you really NEED to have that two-tone. It needs to be best friends with your “Fashion Disaster” dress.

I’ve never loved Anna Wintour’s outfits before (but kinda enjoyed the over all wintour situation)
but i REALLY loved her MET dress.
Ricci’s was amazing too.
the anatomical dress is the coolest though. And I also enjoy that this post brings up the backbone dress in related posts. another favorite!
i personally like your famous worst dressed leopard dress better than rihanna’s. I think its alot more interesting to look at
maybe you need the same dress in blue
