Good grief! June flew by — or floated by, given the amount of rain we’ve had in New York — and I never got around to posting the photos from the Fresh Air Fund party that MrB and I went to on June 4 with eight gorgeous friends: Scott, Isabelle, Zang, Melissa, Alix, Jen, Cheryl and Simpson.

The Fresh Air Fund is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1877. It provides summer fun for New York City kids from disadvantaged neighborhoods by sending the children to the country to stay with host families or go to camp. Being moved from the city to the country would be punishment for me, but it’s apparently it’s good for youngsters. Do as I say, not as I do, kids! Get off the computer and play outside for God’s sake.

Anyway, I already posted the Francis graffiti dress I wore to the party on my other blog, but here’s another shot of it.

Graffiti is what the Fresh Air kids are trying to escape!

I had no idea why the centerpieces had a candy theme, but I loved it.

To my shock, Isabelle — who was with her husband, Scott — loves candy even more than I do, which is like saying she loves candy to “infinity and beyond.”

Isabelle was the one who explained to us that the Flash Pop candy rings only flash when they’re on your finger.

Cheryl and Simpson, before the Flash Pop mystery was solved.

Cheryl and Simpson. Simpson's Flash Pop ring didn't fit!

The “ice cream cones” turned out to be non-lethal weapons. You can shoot the foam “ice cream” out of the plastic cone. Good for annoying one’s tablemates but not good for eating.

Jen and I pretended these were delicious.

There were cookies you could write on, so Zang left me a note.

Speaking of Zang, Melissa wore a beautiful floor-length skirt that he designed. You can see just a bit of it in this picture of Melissa and Alix.

Two lovely ladies.

Here’s the rest of the skirt.

I think the best photo of Zang was taken by the professionals at Style.com.

My favorite picture of MrB is definitely the one where Jen is twirling him around the dance floor…by his tie.

Definitely not a waltz

Not only did Jen invent a new dance that night, but she also managed to get a photo of Mariah Carey.

Thanks to all our guests for joining us. If we get to do it again next year, let’s all remember that lots of wine + Pixy Stix = unusually bad hangover. Ouch!

Y’all had fun, for a good cause! But I have to say, “Wine and Pixy Stix! Yuck! Bleck!” I couldn’t take Pixy Stix when I was in elementary school. Nope.

You are smokin’ in that dress, lady. And I had one of those ice cream cones as a kid. I could spend HOURS bonking unsuspecting family members on the noggin with that dumb thing.

I clicked on Submit Comment for my previous comment and took a bite of toast as it loaded. Chewing, I looked at the screen and saw that the next Anti-spam word is toast, so I had to comment again. Oh, and Mama and I are going to the Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City in a little while (before the guys get here from their hike), and I hope to play the penny Spam slot machine! Couldn’t resist the tie-ins, WendyB.

  20. Please tell me that they played Bow-wow-wow’s song, “I want candy!”
Wendy could you please teach a course in how to be photogenic. Fantastic pictures and looks like a hoot of a good time was had by all.

It looks like a great time was had by all. I love the graffiti dress on you, and thanks for the tip about the Pixy Stix. I’ll make sure to give the candy aisle in 7-11 a wide berth the next time I have wine. :)

  25. Tina says:

Fun photos! But I can see where the candy/alcohol combo could be a dangerous one, particularly if the candy was IN the cocktail.

  26. dreamsequins says:

Looks like you guys had a great time, and what a great cause The Fresh Air Fund is! I’m craving pixie sticks right now…

  37. enc says:

What a great night you all had! I love that long floral skirt Melissa had on. I was wondering where that came from.

The picture of Mr.B being swung around by his tie is pretty hilarious. And powerful. Let’s just say my impression of him has changed!

You look beautiful, as always, in your Francis dress.
