The fabulous Peruvian singer Yma Sumac has died at 86. Check out some of her old looks. Glamorous, no?

If you don’t know who she is, read her New York Times obituary, which has some highlarious details, including: “She soon played Carnegie Hall, flanked onstage by two miniature erupting volcanoes.” Now my ambition is to be followed everywhere by an entourage of two miniature erupting volcanoes. Hey, we all need to have our dreams!

Rest in peace, Yma.

I am so sad about this! I love her “Mambo!” album – great for cocktail parties. And, a lot of hip-hop groups sample from her, like the Black Eyed Peas sampled from “Gopher Mambo”.

I am glad that she is having an appropriate send-off though…

    RIP Yma!

is it bad that i was more surprised she was still alive?

dammit, next time i see a random documentary on german television, like i saw one about her last night, i’ll just assume that person just died.

but in all seriousness… i’m sad she’s gone, what a voice.

Actually, I only know her name because Vanessa Paradis namechecked her in Joe le Taxi…
