You can’t see much in this picture [glaring at photographer], so you’ll just have to believe me when I tell you that I’m wearing three textures of black in this photograph from Friday night. If you click on the photo, you can enlarge it a tad.

Dolce & Gabbana jacket (previously seen here)
Velvet Zang Toi trousers
Lace booties from Nine West

Here is a view of the shoes from above so you can see the lace.

Here’s a jewelry closeup. The giant blue topaz and silver ring is a new piece named Nuit — not for the French word for “night,” but for the ancient Egyptian goddess of the sky. It’s pronounced “newt,” instead of “nwee.” I always have to make things difficult, don’t I?

Earlier in the week, I wore my only “crisp white shirt” with an early ’90s Christian Francis Roth skirt to a dinner.

Christian Francis Roth skirt
Mid-90s patent Prada Mary Janes

Whenever I hear/read someone say that a “crisp white shirt” is essential to everyone’s wardrobe, I want to hit them in the face with my giant Nuit ring. Shirts stay crisp on me for about two seconds and then they’re a wrinkled twisted mess. It looks like my collar is all askew in this photo as a bonus. I got this blouse because it was the necessary underpinning for a really cute vest. The vest, unfortunately, did not go with the skirt so the blouse went out on its own. Love the skirt, though.

OH MY GOD, I HATE the phrase ‘crisp white shirt!’

    Your jewels rule, though. xo

  2. Skye says:

I totally agree about the non-essentialness of the “crisp white shirt” (although you do look pretty cute there). I also take issue with any magazine article which tells me a mens white shirt in particular is a wardrobe staple. I’m 5″2 – mens shirts swamp me, and I’m not the only shorty out there!

  3. coco says:

You look fabulous in that suit. So many women look frumpy in suits, you just look amazingly chic.

  4. Sharon Rose says:

Hi there-I don’t ‘do’ crisp white shirts either. I own one, a Jil Sander one from ebay for 99p, but I don’t wear it often, for the same sort of reasons. You look so chic in black, and the Christian Roth skirt looks fabulous my dear! The new ring is just stunning, a beautiful addition to your works of art.

  5. pretty face says:

    Great outfits, there!
I especially adore your crisp white shirt.
One question – why didn’t you call the ring ‘Nut’ then? ;)

  6. dapper kid says:

Oh wow I adore the lace shoes and that topaz ring looks delightful. Annd love the skirt in the second outfit :)

  7. Anna Pope says:

    I love the shoes!

  8. WendyB says:

PF, because “nwee” sounds/looks prettier than “nut!” (“Nuit” is an alternative spelling for “Nut.”)

  9. WendyB says:

P.S. Also, French “nuit” is kind of related in concept to “Nuit.” Night/sky.

  10. KD says:

I love the 2nd outfit, especially the mary-janes. I actually hate wearing crisp white shirts – I can’t wear crisp stuff! Super-soft is the only way to go for me.

  11. enc says:

I feel like an impostor when I wear a “crisp white shirt.”

You, on the other hand, look superb in one.

The new ring is really bright and beautiful. That stone is really eye-catching.

  12. goldieoldiecharms says:

OHHHHHHHHH! love love love the lace booties!!!!!!!!!

  13. K.Line says:

Everything is beautiful – jewels, skirt, shirt, suit, shoes – all splendid. But my fave element is your hair. The cut is great!

  14. pistols at dawn says:

The only time people I know even say the word “Crisp” is when they’re yelling at former Red Sox disappointment Coco Crisp.

  15. Linda Famularcano says:

Love your blog – I’m a new reader, I follow it through Bloglovin.
Love your jewelry, that ring is gorgeous.
Also loving your style particularly the skirt and the jacket.
    Love it (^_^)

  16. WendyB says:

    Thanks, Linda!

  17. Savvy Mode SG says:

oh i adore your ann fontaine shirt.

  18. m e l i g r o s a says:

    you’re so cute!!

  19. Gerry says:

I think it’s better when your shirt is a bit rumpled up. People look too fussy when they’re all starched and pressed.

Anyways, I love the silhouette of your long skirt and pushed up sleeves – I only wish I could see the details of your outfit a bit better!

  20. Hui says:

You have a lovely bright smile! And it reflects in your jewellry too I believe. :)

Thanks for the info about the Evaline. I went to your online store and absolutely died, such pretty pieces! And such thought behind them! For now, I can only surf and drool…*sigh* But man, I am certainly a fan. :)

  21. lisa says:

The Nuit ring is loooovely. And I don’t own a “crisp white shirt” for much the same reason you describe–they get wrinkled and they require a lot of care to not look like a dishevelled dingy mess! My collared button-down for the rare occasions in my life that require one is deep purple. Take that, “crisp white shirt” advocates!

  22. Lynn says:

I adore the sleeves of the white shirt, and Nuit is simply mysterious. LOVE.

  23. fashion herald says:

oh, thank you for coming out about white shirts. Whenever I hear “white shirt staple” I feel so inadequate.

  24. evie says:

don’t smack me, but i like the idea of a crisp white shirt. i do! but liking the idea and getting it to stay crisp is another issue altogether… although one can always wear your Nuit ring to distract from the less than pristine condition of said shirt at the end of the day.

  25. daddylikeyblog says:

Bleeeehhhhh I want crisp white shirts to burn in fiery hell! In other news, yours looks fantastic and I absolutely love all these outfits.

  26. Songy says:

for me it is.. unfortunately. I can’t be too adventurous with my job. :(

well having said that you look stunning.

there’s certain danger in reading your post everyday since I want all your jewellery. :)

  27. Karen says:

Amazing clothes and you really know how to dress your petite little self. Your hair is perfection. Keep that stylist!

  28. Iheartfashion says:

The phrase crisp white shirt should definitely be retired, but I have to say you wear it well! Love the skirt too.

  29. -h of candid cool says:

    velvet trousers, nice touch
