This piece was inspired by antique mourning jewelry, in which the hair of a deceased loved one was woven into bracelets or earrings or kept under glass in brooches and lockets. Hairwork is strongly associated the Victorian era because Queen Victoria wore mourning for her husband Albert from his death in 1861 until her own in 1901. But it was popular before her reign too. Here is a double-sided mourning pendant from the Georgian era. Hair was used to create an elaborate scene on top of an ivory background.

Photo from the marvelous Things Gone ByAcorns were a common theme in hair jewelry, because they are associated with immortality. The acorn cap was often woven in a crosshatch pattern, as seen in these 19th century hair earrings.

The Acorn necklace is so creative, how can you not love it? I want it really bad:P
Sooooooooooooooo adorable!
That is without a doubt my favorite piece. I must have it. It is close to a weasel as you have come. Lllllove it!
that acorn necklace is blowing my mind. i think i’m going to have to save up for it. i’ve been looking for a good acorn charm (that sounds weird, i know) but what i’ve seen out there (mostly at the young designer’s market on mulberry and brooklyn flea) has been blah and not very creative.
Can I join the chorus of adoring this new piece? Thanks.
That is so adorable that I think my entire body exploded on the inside.
That acorn necklace is totally gorgeous
That necklace is totally cute! where can i buy your jewelry?
xx
Cute but still sophisticated. Miss Wendy, you’ve done it again. Now when do you roll out the sterling silver line for us common folks?
Do I predict a bestseller? That acorn neclace is wonderful. If I had the money, I’d totally shell out for it.
