Meet Mr. Dino

May 23, 2008 by WendyB

Earlier this month, I recommended the labels Paganne, Leonard and Goldworm to those who appreciate Pucci-esque prints. Another designer of great prints in the ’60s was Mr. Dino. According to the Vintage Fashion Guild, the business was owned by Max Cohen, who designed all the prints himself. Cohen’s wife, a fan of Dean Martin, came up with the name “Mr. Dino.”

There are quite a few Mr. Dino items available online, some of them at very reasonable prices.

$225 at CMadeleine’s Vintage Clothes
This is what I think of when I think of Mr. Dino
Maxi dress and matching shawl
$185 at Dorothea’s Closet Vintage

$59.99 at Sydneys Vintage Clothing

$95 at Blue Velvet Vintage

From eBay

$225 at MidCenturyChic.com

$95 at Rusty Zipper

Sold, but still viewable at Vintage Virtuosa
I would have loved to have owned this one.

The eBay seller of this long skirt says it was handmade from genuine Mr. Dino fabric.

All the Mr. Dino pieces I’ve seen have a signature in the print a la Pucci. You can see the signature on the homemade skirt.

If you get a Mr. Dino, make sure it’s signed! And if you bid on eBay, please snipe!

Yeah right! One look at these imeldarific prints and I’d say ol Mrs Cohen is a nice bushy beard. Mr Dino! How heavenly old school camp…oh wait it was the 60’s so it’s highly probable LCD doing the rounds, maybe Mrs Cohen never existed. Anyhoo I’d buy anything carry the name Mr Dino.

I have the very same Mr Dino dress in the first photo from CMadeleine’s Vintage…I know that without a doubt my dress is an authentic Mr.Dino as it was given to me by the original owner who bought it on her honeymoon back in the 60’s.It does have the Mr.Dino label but I must say that nowhere on this dress is there a signature.I know you’re saying that every piece you’ve seen has had this but I must share this info so that others aren’t misled into thinking that perhaps they are not getting an authentic item when shopping for a Mr.Dino creation.
