What’s New at Barneys

October 1, 2007 by WendyB

Kate Moss dress, $335 at Barneys.com. Also available in green.

New Kate Moss for Topshop pieces are available at Barneys.com. I wish they would put The Row online, but so far, no luck with that.

Kazuko Ocean Jasper Heart, $400 at Barneys

In other Barneys news, jewelry designer Kazuko has died at the age of 65, reportedly of esophageal cancer. Kazuko’s wire-wrapped “healing crystal” pieces have dominated the front-of-the-store jewelry display case at Barneys in New York for as long as I can remember. I’m not sure anyone bought one of those pieces after style icon Tina Chow died in 1992 but there they were, a reminder of the glamorous ’80s. If you’re in New York, stop by Barneys sometime soon. The store is going to pay tribute to Kazuko with a special window display. And you can read a tribute by Simon Doonan of Barneys here.

I kind of like the Topshop Kate Moss line, though I know a lot of people are down on it.

I’ve never heard of that designer, but I may stop by Barney’s to check out the tribute…

I’m not surprised you haven’t heard of Kazuko. I don’t mean to disrespect her but it’s a fact that that stuff had a deep layer of dust on it for years. I alway found it strange that those pieces were so prominent. I recently started to find them very appealing in a so-old-they’re-new way. “Healing crystals” in fine jewelry and home decor were big for a while. Maybe you can get a post out of that kind of thing. If I go by Barneys before you do, I’ll try to remember to take a photo for you.

P.S. I love the red Kate Moss dress. The color and the one-shoulder look. I just think it’s got too much going on for me otherwise: ruffle, pleats and belt.

The dress is bright but I dont like the one shoulder look but its also because I have “plump shoulders”.That reminds me I need to go and carry the dog.He is getting used to being carried and hates getting down!

I like KM’s line. And the Row is available online at Browns, they dont have much of a selection right now but…
The exchange rates really make the line very pricey, Alexander Wang is much less expensive.
